Restoration
18th century
and new structure
-

This complex house project resolved the dilemma of reinvigorating valuable old buildings for contemporary use, by identifying its most important elements and building them into an extended house whilst legibly retaining the spatial form and character of the original within it. The old timber frame with its typical spatial form, and the large masonry chimney structure were meticulously renovated and kept, tied together with new oak framed volumes, the whole insulated to higher standards than statutory demands. Sustainability in this project concerns an effective reuse as a comfortable modern living environment
